Job Shadowing - Kenya

Overview

The partner organizations continued their adventure in Kisumu, Kenya to take part in Job Shadowing activities for 2 weeks with local assosiations, as the 3rd phase of the project.

Day 1 to 5

During the first phase of the job shadowing activities, we visited several local organizations, like Nyalenda informal settlement to learn from the Homeless of Kisumu about the methods they are using to reintegrate people into society.🙌
They focus on green education, and women empowerment, not to mention their business club to teach useful skills to the boys and girls in the program.💲💡
Another organization, Jijenge Youth, is introducing the concept of tree planting to the kids and encouraging them to do it by playing football⚽

Day 6 to 10

Sport brings people together. In our case, sport brought us together from 4 different continents and 6 countries.🤸‍♀️💛
We met the female football team in Nyalunya and had the chance to play with their amazing, strong, and talented women.⚽️
We also had the chance to take part at Saturday Wellness Academy of Homeless of Kisumu. 🌴🧘‍♀️.  The workshop started with spiritual greetings, and discussions about climate change and environmental protection, and then continued with football!⚽⚽

Day 10 to 14

We were so pleased and proud to attend the debate about „Sport is a tool for a sustainable environment” in St Theresa’s girl’s secondary school in Kibuye.🏫 👩👨‍🏫
The students showed great understanding of the topic and strong debating skills that were very mind-opening and motivating, 👏we learned a lot from them
After that, we went to play with them some of the games that we developed with the participants of the training course in Peru, the games that combine physical activities and awareness raising about sustainability issues.😄

W also planted 50+ trees in the countryside of Kenya with our fantastic partners from all around the globe.🇰🇪🌍

It’s a small legacy we leave here with the Play for Sustainable Environment P4SE project.🌳

🧏‍♀️Another organization we have met is KEFIADO, which focuses on working with women and girls. They are teaching girls about menstrual hygiene, and reproductive health and hand them out sanitary pads from the Pad Bank they created.

Beyond the Job shadowing!

Amongst the things that made us very proud during our visit to Kenya, is the initiative of Jana from ADEL Slovakia who launched a campaign to collect donations for Homeless of Kisumu and the Kenya Female Advisory Organization – Kefeado .🇰🇪

We have reached €700 until now but we can do even more, together, and therefore we have decided to launch a fundraising campaign for the sports initiatives in Kisumu, and will share more information about it soon.

“Small acts, when multiplied by millions of people, can transform the world”🌳🌍

We, again, have learnt so munch during these days. We reinforced our belief that sport can be a great platform for disadvantaged youth to learn and develop, but in order to make it time proof, we also need to take care of our environemnt. Together…
